Secondary Water System

About April 15th the city will start supplementing the lines to the system from the aqueduct; even though there currently is water in the system, everyone is being asked to wait until May 1st to start watering.

Recommended procedure:

  • Please check your valve to make sure that is has been turned off from the winter months.
  • Open your valve slowly to check for leaks and broken pipes.
  • If you have a broken pipe it is most likely to have been frozen throughout the winter months.
  • The broken line could be from a low spot in the pipe where the water couldn't drain properly and froze.
  • The city recommends/suggests that you put a drain in where the pipe was broken when you fix your pipe.
  • In order for the system to operate more efficiently, until the final tank is completed in mid August, everyone is being asked to help balance the system by following a watering schedule.
  • This requires watering during the day as well as at night.
  • It is recognized that watering during the day is less efficient, but it is necessary to better balance water use with supply.
  • Please remember to only water Monday through Saturday.
  • No watering on Sunday.

We hope this will help ensure that things will go as smoothly as possible and reduce the number of problems and issues that might arrive otherwise.

If you have any questions please contact the water department at (801) 785-2941.

Secondary Water System Information

Image

Public Works Director Lynn Walker wanted residents to know that there have been some questions regarding payment by the residents for the secondary water system that is currently being hooked up in different areas of the city. The secondary system is used for watering gardens, etc., and NOT for culinary purposes. He explained that once the green box is installed in residents yards, they have 30 days to pay the $100 hook-up fee for the secondary service.

The home owner will be responsible for hooking up to the line outside the green box. There will be personnel at Public Works (323 W 700 S) on Fridays from 6:30 am to 10:30 am to help people better understand how to hook up the secondary system to their current irrigation system. The hook up is fairly simple to do and requires approximately $100 in parts. All hook ups must be inspected by the city prior to covering the hook-up. Culinary water and secondary water MUST be physically separated. Cross connections are dangerous. If you have any questions about the installation, please call Public Works at (801) 785-2941. Billing inquiries go to City Hall at (801) 785-5045.

Secondary is billed 12 months a year and the Secondary water rates run: Under an acre (8,000 to 21,000 sq. ft.); $16.20 a month; (21,000 to 28,000 sq. ft.); $19.44 a month; 1 acre; $21.60 a month; over 1 acre; $20 an acre.
